SHUT OUT

Darkness, black, cold,
Outside my window,
Alone.
Nose pressed against the windowpane,
Spectator once again.
Watching people going places,
Couples romancing,
Families nestled beside warm cosy fires,
Loved, belonging, televsion playing,
Food shared in celebration.
Hear the cars zoom bye,
See lights in houses,
Smoke rising to the heavens.
Another night in the lounge,
Loneliness fills my soul,
I long not to spectate,
But to participate in the celebration of life.
Another night alone,
Longing for the phone to ring,
Dreaming of a man asking me out,
Sitting watching the tube,
Living fantasy in my room.
Night draws to a close,
I wander to my empty bed,
Lay crying on my pillow,
Wishing this would end.
